2) By using someone elses domain, when you blog you are building up someone else's domain instead of your own domain.
3) Third party links and advertisements.

The first drawback is technical, if it doesn't bother you then it doesn't bother you. But the other two are fundamental. Your domain name is your online real estate, and the more that you strengthen the domain's framework, the more visibility you will have on the search engines. If you are using someone else's domain name, then you are building His online real estate, not yours. And if you allow outside links and ads there, you are giving away your strength to someone else. Such an advertising service costs money. Put your own ads there!
